Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, 8-week course designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.
Mindful Self-Compassion is about learning to give ourselves the same kindness and care that we would a dear friend. Unfortunately, for most of us, this is much easier said than done! That’s because we have lifelong habits of beating ourselves up, pushing through difficulty or avoiding it altogether. That’s called resistance and much of our resistance is unconscious. Mindful Self Compassion teaches us to create new habits of responding in supportive ways to our suffering, especially when we notice things about ourselves we don’t like, or we are making mistakes, or having a difficult time.
